The IROKO ASSOCIATION, in collaboration with CON.E.DIS. Consortium and other national and international partners are organizing a Conference on trafficking of women for sexual exploitation. The conference is intended to be a joint moment of meditation on the problem of trafficking and prostitution and on the new tendencies in Europe to move towards state regulation of prostitution as a response to the problem of trafficking and prostitution in Europe.
The conference is to be held at Alba (a town close to Turin) from the 22nd to the 24th of January 2004.
INTERVENANTS
National and international experts who have a long experience and have been working and studying these problems over the years and shall present papers on these issues, include:
Lise BERG (Stockholm, Sweden), Swedish Secretary of State Equal Opportunities;
Janice RAYMOND (Massachussetts, USA), Professor Emerita of Women's Studies and Medical Ethics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and Adjunct Professor of International Health in the School of Public Health at Boston University. Visiting Professor at the University of Linkoping in Sweden, and Visiting Research Scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She is also Co-Executive Director of the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women, an international NGO having Category II Consultative Status with ECOSOC, and with branches in most world regions and has published extensively on these issues;
Malka MARCOVICH (Paris, France), an export on trafficking and prostitution and author of several international and national reports and articles on trafficking and prostitution. She directs the MAPP organization in Paris;
Gunilla EKBERG (Stockholm, Sweden), Special Advisor on prostitution and trafficking and director of the Nordic and Baltic Countries' Campaign against trafficking of women. A lawyer, researcher, femminist activist and lecturer, she has worked and published extensively on the rights of women;
Eki IGBINEDION (Benin City, Nigeria), Expert on trafficking and Founder of the Idia Renaissance Organization, which works with, repatriated victims of trafficking in Nigeria;
Yolande GRENSON (Anvers, Belgio), Founder of the Pandora Association of Anvers, a Social Worker, she was in prostitution for 18 years;
Briseida MEMA (Tirana, Albania), President of the Association of Women Journalists of Albania and a corrispondent for Agence France Presse,
Hubert DUBOIS (Francia), Independent journalist. For three years, he was Chief Editor of "La marche du siècle" on French Tv FR3. He has produced a documentary on prostitution and brothels entitled "la vitrine hollandaise" (The Dutch Shop Window &endash; Cineteve/Arte, 2002);
Esohe AGHATISE (Turin, Italy), a Lawyer and Cultural Mediator, United Nations Expert on trafficking and Founding Director of the IROKO Association which provides services to victims of trafficking. A researcher who has written several articles on the problem of trafficking and author /producer of a film on trafficking;
Maria Paola COLOMBO SVEVO (Milano, Italia), Former Senator and European Parliamentarian, she was a Counsellor and Regional Assessor for Welfare Services in the Lombard Region. She is the founding Director of IRENE Association and first Rapporteur on the trafficking of persons to the European Parliament in 1995;
Roberto BENEDUCE (Turin, Italy), Psychiatrist and expert on the Medical Anthropology of the mental health of victims of trafficking, he has worked for years with victims of trafficking as a therapist;
Mirta DA PRA POCCHIESA (Turin, Italy), Professional Journalist, Chief Editor and then Director of the Journal ASPE, she is currently a Vice president of "Aliseo of Gruppo Abele". She has published numerous articles and reports on prostitution and trafficking.
