Par Brimah Kamara LAGOS (Nigéria) SAFYA Tungar-Tuda, la femme récemment condamnée à mort par lapidation par une Cour appliquant la Sharia (*) à Sokoto pour raison supposée d'adultère affirme qu'elle est innocente. S'exprimant lors d'une interview hier à la BBC, avec l'aide d'une interprète, Safya a critiqué le jugement de la Cour Sharia en expliquant que l'homme qui l'a mise enceinte a utilisé tous les moyens, le charme, la violence, pour la faire céder, afin qu'il puisse satisfaire ses désirs sexuels. De ce fait, elle a remis en question les motifs légaux et moraux de sa condamnation en disant : "S'ils le laissent en dehors, pourquoi me condamneraient-ils moi ?" Safya a été prise en flagrant délit d'adultère (**) par une Cour appliquant la Sharia, un acte punissable par la mort. Le gouvernement nigérien et des organisations de défense des droits humains ont fait appel pour elle. Extraits de l'interview : "Comment vous sentez vous face à ce problème global ? - Je ne suis pas satisfaite du tout parce qu'il n'y a aucune justice dans le procès, et j'espère obtenir justice maintenant. Pensez-vous que vous avez commis l'adultère et que vous méritez d'etre punie ? - Non, je n'ai rien commis du tout. Il a utilisé tous les moyens, violence, charme, dans le but de me destabiliser, et c'est pourquoi je me considère comme victime du tout. Avez-vous expliqué cela à la Cour Sharia avant qu'elle vous condamne ? - J'ai dit à la Cour qu'il a usé de séduction. Qu'est-ce que vous avez ressenti quand le jugement a été établi ? Vous avez été condamnée à mort et l'homme n'a pas été inquiété. - Je suis sortie et je me suis mise à pleurer. Quand on lui a demandé pourquoi il avait agit ainsi, il a répondu qu'il était amoureux de moi. On dit qu'à la Cour, il a nié vous avoir rencontrée. - C'est un mensonge. Qu'est-ce que vous faites à propos de ce procès ? - Je veux chercher justice afin que l'on me laisse en paix également, puisque lui, on le laisse en paix. C'est le bébé ? - Oui. Comment s'appelle-t-elle ? - Adama. Pourquoi lui avez-vous donné le nom Adama ? - Nous avons trouvé ce nom dans le livre saint : le Coran

By Brimah Kamara LAGOS (Nigéria) SAFIYA Tungar-Tudu the woman recently condemned to death by stoning by a Sharia court in Sokoto for alleged adultery says she is innocent. Speaking in a BBC interview yesterday through an interpreter, Safiya faulted the judgement passed on her by the Sharia court alleging that the man who impregnated her used force and charms to hypnotize her in order to satisfy his sexual desires. She therefore, questioned the legal and moral justification of her conviction saying "if they left him off the hook, why should they convict me?". Safiya was found guilty of adultery by a Sharia court, an act punishable by death. An appeal has been filed on her behalf by the Nigerian government and civil rights organisations. Excerpts of the interview: How do you feel about the whole problem? I'm not happy with the whole thing because there is no justice in the case, and I hope I would get justice now. Do you think you have committed adultery and you deserve the punishment? No, I have not committed anything. He used force on me and some charms in order to hypnotize me, and that's why I fell victim of this thing. Did you say this to the Sharia court before sentence was passed? I told the court that he used charms on me. How did you feel when judgement was passed? You were sentenced to death and the man was left to go free? I came out and started to cry. When they asked him, why he did this thing, he said he was in love with me. Reports says that he denied at the court ever meeting you at all. It's a lie. What are you doing about the case? I want to seek justice so that I should be left off the hook too since he has been left off the hook. That is the only way justice can be done. Is this the baby? Yes. What is her name? Adama. Why did you call her Adama? We got this name from the Islamic book.
