Business and Professional Women

updated: august 2005

That every woman is equal to men in the economic civil and political world-that is the spearhead of the Women's Professional Union.  This is done with the help of a solid organization and qualified experience.

And why not promote women, ALL women?  That was the idea of Mary Laudner, creator of the Union in 1930.

More than sixty years have passed and what an exciting journey!

The Federation is led today by celebrated sociologist, Evelyne Serdjénian.  Her leadership spreads to all parts of France, gathering support from women in all professions.  It pushes for the education and work of women and encourages women's initiatives in international relations, arts, and the creation of new businesses.

Its force lies mainly in its clear organization which is divided into two main areas of activity.

First, there are the CLUBS.  Each club follows its own program where it alternates between meetings and conferences on current problems.  These groups rely on exchanges and friendly networks as the way of support of professional matters.

Then there are the COMMISSIONS, working facilities that each function with their own president and specialize in their domain of work.  For example, there is a commission for Business and Technology and another for Employment.  Outside of those, there is the Legislation commission.  In all, there are more than 20 specialized commissions.

On the local level, the Clubs take on the responsibility of the Commissions as well as the duties of the Clubs.

This two-structured system is coordinated by the Fédération Nationale which, among other things, maintains the appearance and congress of the organization.   Author of the Bulletin and the Directory, the Fédération also works along side the Fédération Internationale, a nongovernmental organization also active in the improvement of women's roles and statuses in the world's societies.

From local to European levels, the UPF is available to promote women's causes by any means.
