PLAN OF ACTION
Topic:  Woman and poverty

The Social situation and the goals of our project
Brief look on the situation of woman in Albania

Albanian woman live in very difficult conditions and poverty, especially in rural areas. Women of 15-49 years old are 67% of the population. It is the poorest, most fragile and most discriminated part of the population.

UNEMPLOYMENT

It is a spread phenomenon that has plagued women in Albania, while the social assistance offered to them is very smal. Emigration has been widely increased, because of economical conditions and mistrust on country future. The effect of emigration has created big social problems that affect mostly women and children. The mother remains the only one parent for the child and in most of the cases the emigrants ceased contact with the families sending no more money. This is the majority of the cases. Another development in the nature of the emigration come up with the phenomenon of prostitution of children or young women.

SALARIES

Average payment in the public sector varies from 69 up to 82 dollars in a month, while in rural areas it is only around 50 dollars. In the mountain village areas, considering the difficult conditions of living and the infrastructure, the risk of hunger is higher. It is higher iamong females than iamong males of the same age that live in same social-economical conditions.

OUR GOALS

Our project consists in fighting the poverty in these areas. One of our main objectives of this project is the support and moral or material assistance to poor people.

 1) The draft of an exact graph for the poor families. The list of their names should be approved is by the Head of the village.
 2) Specification of their concrete needs.

PROPOSALS

Choosing the 1000 poorest families in Mallakaster near Fier area and offer to them an economical aid food, clothes, social security etc
1- A trainee scheme to help women in self-employment methods stimulating them to develop artisan works and to find the market of selling the products.
2- Preparing them to be able in asking small credits?
3- A seminar helping them to know their rights and their place in our society.

The society and the trade cant not survive without the non-paid work of women such as housework, the work they do in their family in villages of towns etc. Women make a difficult work, traditional or non-traditional.
They condemn the violence at home, office, through the streets etc.
She makes a very important work in growing up and educating the children.
We propose the pregnancy vacations, the birth of a child is a biological work and it must be paid
Ensuring clean running water at every house as a necessary need for living

P.S Because of a lack of financial support, we base the activity of our association mostly on volunteer's work within a limited time, as we don't have office and equipment, neither an annual budget.

News: The day of females- editor-in-chief. TIRANA

On March 8 2000, on the international day of women, journalist-women took in their hand the direction of world media. "The journalists, media and its organizations hailed the initiative on handing to the journalist-women the direction of media. Such a thing has never happened in media's history.

Therefore, for one day the information on the media would be under the responsibility of journalist women," UNESCO General Director Koichiro Matsuura, said as he appealed to all world media to support the initiative. According to Albanian Group of Media Women, UNESCO initiative " Women make the news" stress the idea that the circulation of the information could be performed better if the most talented journalist would have equal possibilities to have directing posts in media, basing upon the capacities of each besides the gender belonging".

Lazily, or entertained by a several hours of professional assistance, the chiefs of Albanian media institution have decided to hand over to the females the direction of editing rooms.

This way, the person charged to control everything for "Gazeta Shqiptare" newspaper was nominated Alba MALTEZI.

More shouting or smiles, diplomacy or "iron hand" were somehow felt in the editing rooms, televisions or Albanian radios, where the women are the majority taking more than 50 percent. Media institutions were directed by females-chief in symbol of the International Woman's Day, March 8. On this day the women in Albania and all around the world made the news. It will be better if this initiative would be taken on other days, not only for one day.
