Exchange of appartments - posted feb 2002

Ref SHEILA D. photographs of the house available upon request - it is very rural!

House in CALIFORNIA for apartment in PARIS (September 18 until October 8, 2002)

We would like if possible to exchange houses (apartments) with someone in Paris for the time we will be there, if that can work, or for part of the time. We just need to know - most people travel for two weeks, but we will have three. So it may be that it will not work out, or perhaps for a week or so. If not, we plan to stay at the Hotel Rhetia, and will make our reservations there within a few weeks.

WHAT WE WANT We would like to be near a Metro line so we can get around the city, as we will spend much time at museums and exhibitions, some tourist, some observing for our work.

We need a bedroom to sleep in and a bathroom to wash in, and no smoking. Someplace close to wash clothes.

Perhaps we could stay with someone for a week or ten days, and they could come stay with us for the same length of time when they come here. We can provide a separate bedroom, shared bath, kitchen, laundry. (Sheila is a woman activist)

WHAT WE OFFER Our house is in the mountains (800m) north of the city of Santa Cruz (about 24 kilometres) and about 100 kilometres south of San Francisco - and 20 minutes from the Pacific Ocean (14 kilometres) and beaches. We think it is very beautiful here, tall trees, blue skies, friendly people, good coffee! We have telephone, video, computer, radio, charcoal barbecue. - no TV

We have 2 hens which lay fresh eggs and lots of doves, there are trails to walk on - it is rural! Blackberries in the summer.

We do not have much public transport. A person visiting here would have to rent a car to get many places - but auto rental is not terribly expensive. If they were to visit while we were here, and have an international license and could drive a pickup truck (small Nissan), I'm sure they could get around well. But rural living has this drawback! It is why we have hesitated to suggest a house exchange - it would work best if we were here to facilitate. We could pick up at airport and do some tour guide help - we have experience at this - so let us know what you think. If it can work - direct contact Please mention your page in the website.
